Top 100 Container Ports 2016

In line with their 2015 throughputs, two Turkish ports, Ambarlı (a group of different ports of call) and Mersin International Port were ranked within the top 100 container ports in the world, according to Lloyds list which was released in the third quarter of 2016.
By handling 3.2 million TEU, Ambarlı ranked as 45th and by handling 1.4 million TEU Mersin International Port ranked as 96th within the top 100 container ports. According to the report, Ambarlı volumes slumped some 7.7% between 2014 and 2015 while Mersin International throughtput drop was 2.2% in the same period.
In the Lloyds report of 2015, Ambarlı was ranked as 40th and Mersin International Port was ranked as 92nd. It showed that both ports have dropped 5 rows between 2014 and 2015. This result can be explained by the function of low GDP growth and sluggish foreign trade that Turkey confronted during 2014 and 2015.
Despite the recent currency fluctuations, I hope 2016 will be better than the previous years because there is some upside signs in container throughputs compared to 2015.
