Grounded vessel Gustav Maersk on the way to Turkey for repairs


The VLCS GUSTAV MAERSK went aground while she was  maneuvering to pick up the pilot at Italy's mainland Torre Cavallo to the north of the Messina Strait.
The 367 meters-long giant ship's condition was checked and there was no damage to the ship, no leaks.
The ship was again floated with the help of two tugboats and was anchored to Gioia Tauro for surveys.
The ship was going from Rijeka to Gioia Tauro.

The mega boxship Gustav Maersk, which ran aground in northern Messina Strait near Torre Cavallo, Italy last week, coming to Turkey's Beşiktaş Shipyard for repairs.
Last week, The 9,000 TEU vessel was maneuvering to take pilot on board after mechanical failure when she stuck into the rocks of Italian coast, but fortunately was not breached and did not suffered water ingress.
The accident was reported to the local authorities, who ordered special survey and underwater inspection of the mega boxship Gustav Maersk before refloating. It was estimated that ship was not damaged and was towed to safe depth with assistance of three tugs. The container carrier Gustav Maersk proceeded to Port of Gioia Tauro in Italy, where docked and will pass safety inspection and special survey.
Gustav Maersk, unladen, pased the Strait of Çanakkale yesterday, heading to Beşiktaş Shipyard of Turkey at Altınova shipyards region (VIDEO)
